MS SQL Server DBA (Remote)

Position: MS SQL Server DBA

Location: Remote, US based

Duration: Long term part-time

In this role you will:

  • Perform day to day and long term monitoring of system health
  • Perform research into database performance issues and come up with solutions to address those concerns
  • Respond to requests for data from customers in a timely fashion
  • Perform database health checks using SQL profiler, performance monitor, performance counters, and DBCC commands
  • Be part of an on-call rotation to ensure 24 hour uptime and address SQL Server DB issues

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in database design, development, and administration of MS SQL Server in production, development, and QA environments
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years hands-on experience as an MS SQL Server Database administrator supporting large production databases in Windows environments
  • Expert in database performance tuning, using tuning methodology, including activity monitor, query plans, performance views, trace files, and other SQL Server tools
  • Expert in writing T-SQL, including complex stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
  • Must have experience with set up, fine-tuning, and maintaining SQL Server
  • Good knowledge of configuration management concepts, release management, change management concepts, industry standards, and best practices
  • Experience with PowerShell and batch scripting
  • Experience in fine tuning indexes for performance improvement
  • Experience implementing data partitioning to improve performance
  • Experience in security concepts as they relate to SQL Server
  • Ability to create effective backup and recovery plans by transactional log and full database backups
  • Experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions with SQL Server failover clustering, database snapshot, Always-On, log shipping and database mirroring
  • Experience with transactional and snapshot replication
  • Experience with Command-Line SQL Server interaction
  • Experience in creation of SSIS packages for transferring data from various data sources like Oracle, MS Access, MS Excel and text files. Experience in configuring MS SQL Server database, reporting services, analysis services and integration services in a Windows environment
  • Experience with SQL Server capacity and resource planning and management
  • Experience with SQL Server transparent data encryption (TDE). Knowledge of encrypting file systems & column-level encryption
  • Experience with MS SQL Server on various platforms, or active directory components and active directory environments
  • Experience with very large databases (VLDB)
  • Experience with Azure Cloud and/or Amazon Web Services ( EC2, VPCs. S3, Route53) is a big plus
  • Proven experience helping customers solve business problems
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must have experience with MS SQL Server database troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • Experience providing recommendations, best practices, and guidance to improve customer infrastructure
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills, fast learner, hardworking and must be a team player
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred

Qualifications Preferred:

  • MS SQL Server experience in MS Azure or Amazon AWS is HIGHLY preferred
  • Some experience in Oracle EBS Apps database administration is a plus
