Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer - £70,000 + Benefits:

Our partners app enables nurses and other staff working in healthcare and social care to perform quality inspections directly from their phones. The aim was to free clinical teams from having to use paper and spreadsheets and that in turn has helped free up thousands of hours of their time to care for patients. Customers include some of the biggest names in UK healthcare, such as King's College, Bart's Health, The Royal Free, The Royal Marsden and London Ambulance Service…

We're looking for a senior Ruby on Rails developer to working as part of our product and back-end engineering team in our office in Central London and with our remote front-end team outside the UK.

About you:

• Deep expertise developing, testing and deploying APIs written in Ruby ( Ruby on Rails as well as Sinatra or Grape ) that are proven to scale efficiently and effectively. Minimum of 5 years relevant experience, ideally closer to 10

• Strong academic background, preferably in Computer Science, minimum of 2:1 or equivalent in CS from a good university (post-graduate qualification even better)

• Experience of working in a start-up / scale-up environment, with a good understanding of how to balance technical and feature requirements with resource constraints at speed

• Able to take responsibility for ensuring stability and security of the platform - oversee availability, system security / information governance, testing frameworks and benchmarking

• Able to collaborate with our Front-end and Product team to design APIs and make architectural decisions that match the business requirements

• Help support the growth of our engineering team, mentoring, leading and supporting less experienced developers in the team

• Comfortable working in an agile environment, on all stages of development, from building quick MVP-style prototypes, iterating over multiple feedback cycles until getting to a polished product, to debugging and maintaining our live systems

• Customer oriented - enjoy working with our customers to help design and build solutions

• Don't need to have healthcare experience but are happy solving healthcare problems and feel excited by working in this industry

Current stack:

• RESTful APIs backend based on Ruby on Rails and Grape

• Deploying to Heroku and AWS

• Using PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, S3 for storing and processing data

• Git for source code control (Bitbucket and GitHub)

• Front-end primarily native iOS (Objective-C / Swift) and Android (Java / Kotlin), but increasingly to web-native front-end solutions too

• Video for talking to our remote team, generally

• Trello and Kanban for pipeline, Asana for project and product management

• Increasingly using analytics (e.g. Firebase) to understand our customers better
